RACHEL AND ZOE’S STORY
Whole-Family Support Driving Positive Outcomes
Rachel, a 22-year-old single mother, approached
Indigo in October 2022 seeking support to improve
her employment opportunities while raising her 7year-old daughter, Zoe. She faced barriers
including financial instability, childcare costs, and
irregular work.
Zoe has flourished in her childcare setting—
gaining confidence, making close friends, and
enjoying creative activities like dance and
music. She is now comfortable asking for
support and actively engages with staff and
peers.
With help from the Family Support Coordinator
and ACF funding, Rachel received:
Key Supports Provided
Fully funded childcare for Zoe, allowing
Rachel to focus on employment and repay
debts.
Holiday and crisis support, including food
hampers and Christmas gifts.
Guidance and signposting for employment,
finances, and custody mediation.
These interventions helped Rachel:
Secure contracted employment with
suitable hours.
Pay off her debts and transition to using
Universal Credit to cover childcare fees.
Manage high summer costs with a shortterm fee break during a custody dispute.
In 2024, Rachel increased her work hours and
enrolled Zoe in full-time childcare, achieving
greater financial stability.
Fully funded childcare
Temporary fee relief
Family and financial guidance
Employment and relationship support
Holiday and crisis assistance
Outcomes:
Rachel: Now in full-time work and debtfree
Zoe: Thriving socially and emotionally in
full-time childcare
Family: Financially stable, confident, and
actively engaged with community
resources
It's been an amazing lifeline. I dread
to think where my family and I would
be if it weren't for the help we
received. It has honestly helped us
massively, and there are honestly no
words that I can give to give the
gratitude we have for this help.
