KATIE AND ELSIE’S STORY
Whole-Family Support Driving Positive Outcomes
Katie, a lone parent with a physical
disability, faced financial hardship,
housing insecurity, and harassment.
Her daughter, Elsie, initially joined
Indigo's nursery, where Katie accessed
early learning support and parenting
programmes such as PEEP and Family
Matters Stay & Play.
When Katie received a temporary job
position, Indigo arranged a fully
funded Out-of-School Care (OSC)
place for Elsie through ACF, enabling
Katie to work without childcare
concerns. Concurrently, Indigo
supported Katie with housing advice
and harassment-related advocacy.
Elsie thrived in OSC, developing
confidence and friendships. Katie’s job
role led to permanent employment at
an advocacy and rights-based
organisation, which meant she later
transitioned to paying OSC fees
through Universal Credit.
More recently, Katie assumed
kinship care of her 2-year-old niece
following a disclosure of abuse.
Indigo responded with practical and
emotional support, including legal
guidance, food vouchers, and
Christmas gifts.
Outcomes:
Katie is now in full-time, stable
employment and is a confident
advocate for others.
Elsie is a happy and thriving 8year-old.
Katie is financially secure and
now supports both her daughter
and niece.
A vulnerable 2-year-old is now in
a safe, loving home.
This case demonstrates the longterm impact of integrated family
support—enabling stability,
resilience, and empowerment.
Overall I feel I have benefited so
much from this service and it
non-judgmental approach
which makes life easier
